Winter is fast approaching! That always makes getting up out of your warm bed challenging, especially as it also gets darker and darker each morning. If you still want to get your workout in but don’t want to venture outside into the cold, here’s a few tips for training at home.
Set Your Alarm Out of Reach
This may sound cruel, but it works. Set your alarm on your phone or however you do it, but make sure you actually have to get out of bed to turn it off. Once you’re up, you’re more likely to do your training.
Have Your Kit Sorted
It’s amazing how much difference it can make to your attitude knowing you’d have to scour through your wardrobe and pull out all your training equipment before you even start! Have all your kit ready the night before and you’ll be far more inclined to train and less to go looking for an excuse to sleep in.
Use a Motivator
Working out is so much easier if you have a purpose. Use a motivating tool, like a photo of your dream body next to your bed to remind you of why you’re making such an effort.
Get Creative
If the idea of running on the treadmill bores you to tears, then get creative with your workouts. Learn some new exercises and put them together to make your own workout. Just don’t fall into the trap of only programing the stuff you find easy.
Challenge Yourself
Pick out a few exercises and keep a record of your Personal Bests. Every few weeks try to beat that PB and write up your new score. This will help keep you motivated and seeing good results.
Try a Few Tabatas
These are fantastic to throw into your workouts, especially if you’re short on time. Put simply, it’s 8 rounds of 20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest. You can pick one exercise to do over the whole 8 rounds or you can pick a few. There’s an App you can download that will even keep the times for you and let you know when to start and stop.
Pump Up The Volume
There’s no denying that having your favourite music on while you train helps keep you motivated. It’s your home, so you pick the playlist! Crank that music DJ!
